The Spanish dancer, scientific name Hexabranchus sanguineus, is a dorid nudibranch, a very large and colorful sea slug, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Hexabranchidae. Its common name comes from its particular defense: when disturbed, it unfolds its mantle edges and swims through contractions and undulations of the body, resembling a dancer. sanguineus was being used for at least five distinct species, making its taxonomy controversial.
